Well done John Key
The new education policy presented by John Key at his annual state of the nation speech is excellent. It’s hard to fault it and I believe it will raise the level of education in New Zealand.
How often do you get the teachers unions supporting a Nat policy? We need to give credit where credit is due and National has managed to bring across an education shift that will reap rewards.
The government had a choice, They could have poured money into schools to help raise the standards of education. Or they could have invested in high performing principals and teachers, using them to help improve low performing schools and students. They chose the latter and they have scored probably the winning goal.
Investing in low performing schools to help them deliver better programmes are not necessarily going to improve the education in those schools if there is no investment in nurturing and mentoring the educators in those schools. It’s not about the delivery of programmes but about the coaching of the deliverers of the programme.
We have got a great lot of committed teachers in this country. I am amazed at the level of sacrifice many of them make in preparing and delivering these lessons to help our children learn. National’s new policy will see this nation investing in these teachers by raising up a level of successful and experienced coaches who will help them raise their own standards. This is the right path to take for New Zealand to have a world-class education system.
Well done John Key!
